Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
The Pakistan Chapter
PATA Pakistan Chapter is, in effect, the federation of Pakistan’s tourism industries, trades and administration. Its constituents are travel agents, inbound and outbound tour operators, event managers, airlines, hotels, restaurants, tourist transport operators, travel publications, consultants, government and semi-government authorities.
This Pakistan Chapter’s membership is spread all over the country – from Karachi to Lahore to Gilgit and Islamabad. It has a remarkable record of keeping together the licensees and the regulatory authority on one platform, thus sustaining stakeholders’ resolve in facing the economic damages imposed upon it by the 9/11 and its aftermath.
It has a respected record of holding interactive training seminars with the active support of PATA. Interactive training seminars on New FCU Air Tariff, Improving Tourist Guide Skills and Outbound Tourist Markets – Japan to name only a few among the many; the latest
being on ‘Marketing Tourism in Difficult Times’.
The Pakistan Chapter supported and actively participated in implementing European Union’s 3-year Vocational Training Program for South Asia.
Throughout the past decades, until 9/11, it hosted many ‘fam trips’ for tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers and travel writers from outbound-market countries jointly with the federal Ministry of Tourism, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Hotels Association and Travel Agents Association of Pakistan. It also initiated a Chapter to Chapter engagement by hosting fully the Swiss Chapter’s fam with destinations and products in Pakistan.
In 1995 it won the Best Chapter Award from PATA.
With its objective of promoting Domestic Tourism the Pakistan Chapter organized destination awareness seminars in Multan, the most ancient living cities of the world. Its next such seminars are projected at Gwadar and Sukkur.
